Introduction

You know that feeling when you hire an agency, meet the impressive founder on the sales call, and then never see them again? From week two onwards, you're talking to someone junior who's learning on your project. The founder pops back up only when it's time to renew.

It happens a lot, and it's one of the most common complaints I hear from people who've worked with agencies. You paid for the experience you saw in the pitch, not for a stand-in.

Yellowchalk is interesting because its reviewers keep saying the opposite. It's a UI/UX design agency in Bengaluru (Bangalore), founded in 2015 by Rajiv and Pooja, and clients often mention that the founders stayed personally involved. It has worked with EY, Intel, Changi Airport and HackerRank. Clutch lists $5,000+ projects at $25–$49 per hour, and all 7 of its reviews are 5.0.

The Short Answer: Is Yellowchalk Worth It?

Yes, if you want hands-on, founder-led UX design at Indian rates for a startup or enterprise product. Ask how they plan, estimate and test, because those were the weak spots reviewers mentioned.

How I Wrote This Review

Fair disclosure: I run a design studio, and you'll see me in the alternatives table. Yellowchalk does a lot more app work than I do, but I still want you to know my position.

I haven't hired Yellowchalk. On October 31, 2026, I read its Clutch profile and all seven reviews, including the "what could be improved" parts. I couldn't load its full portfolio from my workspace, so my design opinion relies on what clients describe and the brands it lists.

Who Is Yellowchalk?

Yellowchalk was founded in 2015 by Rajiv (CEO) and Pooja (design strategist), per Clutch. It has grown to roughly 50–75 people, which is a nice size: big enough to handle real projects, small enough that founders can still be in the room.

Its client list is surprisingly broad. On the enterprise side, there's EY, Intel, Changi Airport, Titan and Vidal Health. Among startups, there's HackerRank, Goalwise and AppAchhi. That mix suggests the team is comfortable with both the speed of startups and the paperwork of large companies.

Ask about retainers

The main catch

Reviewers flagged weak early project management, effort estimation and limited user research on some projects. So the design gets praised, but the planning around it can wobble. Ask exactly how they'll plan the first month and test the designs with real users.

A worked example

Say you run a mutual-fund startup in India, and your app's onboarding loses half the people who start it. They get stuck at the risk questionnaire and never come back.

A Yellowchalk project might redesign onboarding and the portfolio screens over a few weeks, at a price that's friendly for an early-stage company. Since one reviewer said research was a gap, I'd budget a small round of user testing. Even five people trying the new flow on their phones would show you whether the redesign actually fixes the drop-off.

What Do Clients Say?

Reviewers praise design quality, responsiveness, meeting deadlines and founder involvement. One said the team doesn't stop "till the client is 100% satisfied," which tells you something about the attitude.

The criticism is about process more than output: early planning, time tracking and user research. With only seven reviews, though, I'd treat the perfect score as promising, not final. Ask for a reference from a project similar to yours.

Is Yellowchalk Legit?

Yes. Named founders, an eleven-year history and big-brand clients support it. Seven reviews is a small sample, but they're consistent.

My Honest Design Opinion

From the brands Yellowchalk lists and how clients describe the results, its work seems clean and friendly, the kind of design that makes a complex app feel approachable. As a designer, I think that's a real skill. Making an investment app feel calm for a first-time investor is harder than it looks.

My hesitation is the research point. Good-looking screens that haven't been tested can still confuse people. If research isn't part of the quote, ask for it, or plan your own quick tests. Pretty and proven is always better than just pretty.

Cons of Yellowchalk

  • Only seven Clutch reviews.

A Quick Note About Me

I'm Subarno, and I run a small design and no-code studio. Like Yellowchalk's founders, I'm hands-on in every project, since it's just me. The difference is that I focus on websites and branding, not app builds.

My $1,000/month retainer covers:

  • website design in Figma,

  • website builds in Framer or Webflow,

  • branding for smaller businesses, like logos, colors and brand guides,

  • small website animations and interactions,

  • banners, posters and social media content.

Book a free 30-minute call or get hold of me on my contact page. If you need an app designed and built in India, Yellowchalk is probably the better match.

Final Verdict: Is Yellowchalk Worth It?

Yellowchalk offers founder-led UX at friendly rates, with a client list that would make bigger agencies jealous. Reviewers clearly enjoyed working with the team.

Push on planning, estimates and user testing before you start. Do that, and you'll get the founders you met on the sales call, not a stand-in.
